Oath Taking Ceremonies, Muhurata and its Importance

In ancient period kings used to rule our country. Before ascending the throne they had to be sworn by the name of his kingdom and subject. The oath was the union of responsibility and power and under it he had to treat his subject like his children and had to protect the country at any cost.

Now Monarchism has ended and democratic system of government has been established in our country, but the oath taking ritual is present in this modern age too.

Our ministers of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Assembly elections take oath after winning elections. Like them there are also posts and duties in the whole governmental machinery for which oaths are taken to protect the secrecy and magnitude of the posts.

Astrology says that oath taking for any post or duty is itself very auspicious thing and if this work is carried out in a good muhurat then it will help the person discharge the duties better. If any person wants to consider the muhurat before taking oath then he or she needs to understand some factors which determine a good and bad muhurat. Some determining factors of oath-taking muhurat are as follows:

Nakshatra
Astrologers consider the placement of the nakshatra very important while judging a muhurat for taking oath.  If the day of oath has Laghu nakshatras like Ashwani, Hasta, Pushya or Avijeet; or Mitra nakshatra like Mrigashira, Revati , Chitra or Anuradha; or Sthir nakshatra like Uttrafalguni, Uttrasadha, Uttravadrapada, Rohini, Jyestha or Shravan then it is said to be very auspicious for the native.

Week day
The weekday on which the oath is taken is also quite important. Auspicious days like Sundays, Thursdays or Fridays are good for oath taking. The combination of above stated auspicious nakshatra and day is an excellent muhurat that guarantees favorable result to the official who is taking the oath.

Tithi
Auspicious Tithi is also an important factor for the muhurat. The Rikta tithis i.e. the 4th, 9th or 14th tithis are not auspicious for taking oath. So, they should be avoided. All other tithis are auspicious except Rikta.

Ascendant
Besides considering nakshatra, week day, tithi placement of Ascendant can also be considered to further refine the Muhurtham. If there is an auspicious Ascendant of the Shirshodaya signs like Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Libra or Aquarius it means the oath taking muhurat is superb and will definitely give best results to the person.

If the oath muhurat has auspicious planet in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th house and inauspicious planet in the 3rd, 6th or 11th house then also it is good for taking oath.

Nishedha
Astrology considers it inauspicious if oath is taken on the 4th, 8th or 12th sign from the person’s moon sign. Nakshatra dosha or combination of Bhadra and other malefic yoga is bad for taking oath. Placement of the Moon in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house of the Ascendant is also not auspicious for taking oath.
